Aliona Kuznetsova
"Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine took away the spring of 2022 from all the Ukrainians. We didn't feel it, didn't rejoice, didn't celebrate the birth of new life, the first flowers and warming. It was only when summer came and I noticed my favourite peonies blooming that I felt reborn and wanted to continue creating art further, in between the feeling of life and death.
The flower, as a sign, reminds me of the explosions I was very close to at the end of February 2022 and the sounds which accompanied me throughout 2022 while creating the works of this series. From one point to the periphery, like an extension.
These explosions are still happening all over Ukraine, as Russian missiles bomb our civilian objects, we are still fighting and defending our lives, our land and our homes. And the flowers continue to bloom, no matter what."
